Volunteer

The Friends of the Library are always looking for volunteers to:

  • Work during book sales
  • Grounds beautification
  • Provide refreshments for programs

To help the Friends of the Library, contact Pam Hoesman at 419-334-7101 ext. 204 or email pam.hoesman@birchard.lib.oh.us for more details.

Volunteers are also needed for shelf reading. Shelf reading is a method of keeping materials in proper order on the shelves. This is an ongoing project, and you can donate your time any time the main or branch libraries are open. Familiarity with the Dewey Decimal Classification System and alphabetizing is helpful. People interested in this kind of volunteer work must be at least 21 years old and must attend a training session held at the main library once a year, normally in September. Please contact Lynne Wagner at the library (419-334-7101 ext 210) for more details.

We are also accepting applications for school-aged students who would like to earn volunteer hours assisting in the Children's Department. Duties may include assisting with special programs, project or craft preparation, and organization. Applications can be picked up at the main desk in the Children's Department. You can also contact Lynne Wagner at 419-334-7101 ext 210 or through email at lynne.wagner@birchard.lib.oh.us.
